I took an Open Water Diver course at the scuba school here in Porto Rotondo. It was a lot of fun and opened up a new world breathing underwater. I enjoyed the feeling. On the final two open water dives I saw several octopuses, a moray eel, and lots of fish including some small grouper. My dive instructor Vincenzo was a great teacher and now I feel comfortable to use the equipment we have on board the boat to deal with any shallow water issues like snagged anchors and rope around props.

I had planned on doing the course in Victoria before we departed, but with the ski accident those plans were shelved. Now it is completed and it was a tad warmer (water 23 degrees) than what I would have experienced at home.

    • We were the only Canadians in the bay on Canada Day, we did celebrate and sang Oh Canada. We met a guy today who flies the Fleur de Lis and when I asked (in French) if he was from Canada, he responded Je suis de Quebec – Basta! I didn’t bother to ask how he passed his Canada Day. Really nice old guy though. The kind that makes you proud to be Canadian.

  3. I see you are taking after you infamous sister…I loved my first experience Scuba Diving and in 23 degree water makes it even better. What’s up with the full wetsuit?

    • You’re right Penni! The temp sounds warm but after 30 minutes it starts to feel pretty cool. I was happy to have it. Fun seeing the blue world from down below. – Bill
